Cyclone Melissa is forecast to strengthen into a rare Category 5 storm as it turns toward Jamaica, causing deadly flash flooding and mudslides.

This weather system, which had wind speeds of up to 120 mph as of 0600 Greenwich Mean Time, is presently veering toward the northwest in the Caribbean Sea and is projected to reach land by midweek, as reported by hurricane specialists.

Advisories of power cuts and disruption to utilities have been announced as Melissa brings up to thirty inches of precipitation and storm surges as high as thirteen feet above ground. "Find safe refuge immediately," inhabitants have been advised.
