Rob Edwards along with O'Neil are two of the initial names in the frame to replace the former manager as manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The previous coach was dismissed on Sunday after the squad's 10-match winless beginning to the top-flight season.

And both candidates - each of whom have historic associations to the club - are among the names to be considered by the club leadership.

The manager is currently at another club, which would create a possible obstacle to his hiring at Wolves' stadium.

Nevertheless the former Luton manager - who made more than 100 of games for the club during his playing career - is considered a strong candidate for the position.

The 42-year-old is said to have support from the club directors as they begin the process of hiring a new manager.

O'Neil is additionally appearing as a unexpected contender, although he would be a shock appointment given he was released by Wolves in the previous winter.

The former West Ham United midfielder is out of work meaning the club would not be required to pay any buyout fee.
