Alphabet Plans Investment of $15bn to Establish Artificial Intelligence Data Center in the Indian Subcontinent

AI Data Center
India stands as a prime location for computing facilities owing to its low data costs and swiftly increasing internet user base.

The parent firm of Google Alphabet Inc. plans to commit $15 billion for constructing an artificial intelligence data center in the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.

The infrastructure, to be established in the port city of the city of Visakhapatnam, will become a component of Google's international system of artificial intelligence hubs located in twelve different countries.

"This represents the biggest artificial intelligence center that we are committing funds to worldwide, excluding the United States of America," Google Cloud's chief executive stated at an gathering in Delhi, the national capital this Tuesday, noting that the financial commitment will be allocated throughout the next half-decade.

This declaration occurs when US President Donald Trump has been urging American companies to give priority to local funding.

India's Growing Role in AI Computing

The country has risen as a key destination for artificial intelligence facilities. The country's affordable data pricing and quickly expanding internet user base have made it a focal point for AI and cloud growth for tech giants.

"The facility will bring our industry-leading technology to businesses and consumers in India, accelerating artificial intelligence advancement and driving growth nationwide," said Alphabet's chief executive Sundar Pichai.

Specifics of the Project

A definitive arrangement to finalise the initiative is set to be signed soon, local government officials announced.

"This represents a major step forward for our state's digital future, progress, and global standing," remarked the minister for technology Nara Lokesh, the technology minister.

The venture will integrate computing and artificial intelligence facilities with green energy infrastructure and an enhanced optical fiber network.

The State's Data Hub Strategy

The project forms part of the Andhra Pradesh government's blueprint to create six gigawatts of data centre capacity by 2029.

Data centers are tangible infrastructures that accommodate the networking and computing devices that organizations use to gather, analyze, save, and share information.

They contain servers, memory systems and connectivity devices like routers and firewalls, along with the necessary power and cooling systems to run them.

Financial Attractions

Across Andhra Pradesh, the local administration has been offering discounted land and energy to attract worldwide funders.

Sector Expansion

The nation's data center sector has developed swiftly during the last five years, crossing the 1GW capacity mark in the year 2024 and almost increasing threefold its 2019 capacity.
