One senior officer that leaped to the assistance of a fellow officer that was assaulted by a knifeman has been awarded the Royal Recognition for Valor.

Sgt Tim Ansell fought with twenty-seven-year-old Jacob Brown subsequent to he pressed a weapon to the throat of his fellow officer Sgt Marc Foster.

Brown began the violence as the policemen and their third officer, PC Marcus Wolstencroft, were speaking to a motorist subsequent to a traffic accident in Whalley Range in mid-2023.

Brown stabbed and slashed both Sgt Ansell and Sergeant Foster prior to PC Wolstencroft stunned him with a stun gun.

"Officer stabbed," PC Wolstencroft stated over his communication device.

Bodyworn and dashboard camera video shared by the agency depicted Brown, who was dressed in dark clothing with a hood covering head, rush to Sergeant Foster from the rear with a weapon extended.

He ran into the policeman who stumbled and went down to the street, after which Sgt Ansell intervened and attempted to subdue him to the floor despite being continually attacked with the weapon.

PC Wolstencroft drew his Taser and sought a open target, concluding the struggle to an end.

Sgt Ansell can be heard to say: "I need assistance on my throat now, I've been stabbed in the throat."

Sgt Ansell suffered multiple open wounds to his neck and additional cuts to his limbs and body, while Sgt Foster experienced cut injuries.

The department stated Sgt Foster used his bare hands to control his colleague's bleeding before emergency responders reached the scene.

The new recognition comes after the law enforcement team were granted internal Valor Recognitions in fall 2023 and the John Egerton Bravery Award from the regional Police Federation in early 2024.

They further earned a Regional Valor Recognition in mid-2024.

"The responses of all three officers in the end protected one another and meant no civilians suffered any wounds."

Brown was given to an psychiatric detention in April 2024, as stated by the department.
