A Mountain of Anime Updates Dropped Over the Holidays
The winter break offer a plethora of pursuits much better than checking the headlines: unwrapping gifts, getting stuffed on delicious food, and using meditation skills to refrain from yelling at relatives. I hope you managed to do all these things and more. However, the showbiz industry never sleeps, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. A slew of noteworthy news items emerged over the festive period, and just in case you didn't see any, here is a compilation of the juiciest bits.
The One-Punch Man Series Its Third Season Is Set to Continue (By 2027)
Truly the biggest piece of news, the notorious troubled production that was the third season of One-Punch Man failed to stop the series' continuation. Season 3 will come back with a subsequent part in 2027—a date so remote they might as well have labeled it season 4. Even more shocking, animation studio J.C. Staff will continue to be leading the project. Thankfully this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the beginning, which is seen as a hopeful indicator. Yet, the key visual for the continuation is the same image the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This makes me think that, by now, they are probably teasing the fans.
Ruri Dragon Is Poised to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime From Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has forged a name for being an prestigious animation studio, distinguishing itself not just for the high caliber of its work but for the ethical practices of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Surprisingly, until now, it had never worked on an anime adapted from a manga from Shonen Jump, arguably the most iconic magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will end that streak, and what a excellent choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo achieved massive popularity when it first appeared in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a extended pause due to the author's health issues. When it came back with a reduced workload, the series proved it hadn't lost the fans' support and enthusiasm, and now fans are overjoyed about the impending KyoAni adaptation.
Kingdom Its Sixth Season Has a Sequel In Production
Kingdom is the highly popular, epic Shueisha manga that is not One Piece. If you've never heard of it before, it's because it only just received an English translation, but the anime has been airing for some time, and season 6 was a further outstanding entry. It turns out that was just the initial batch, because a "sequel" has been confirmed as in development, and it will probably premiere in 2026.
Science Saru Is Adapting A Witch in Mongolia To Anime
One more studio renowned for the excellent quality of its work, Science Saru has brought us masterpieces of the quality of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be taking on the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, which is based on the real historical figure of Fatima, an powerful woman and thinker in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime named Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and fascinating visual style, which evokes Ranking of Kings. Set to premiere in July 2026, this one will definitely be on my must-watch list.
Tougen Anki Will Return With a Season Two
Immediately following the conclusion of the final episode of the first season, it was revealed that Tougen Anki will be securing a second season. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki brings to life the manga by Yura Urushibara. The new season of the anime will adapt the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a firm premiere date has yet to be revealed.
